The best way to watch a video on your iPhone is in landscape mode. So it is quite irritating when you end up shooting a video in portrait mode as it’s horrible to watch vertical videos in landscape mode, and irritating to keep switching between landscape or portrait mode.
Horizon, a new Camera app aims to address this by eliminating portrait mode recording.
It lets you record horizontal videos irrespective of how you hold your iPhone. Even if you hold your iPhone in portrait mode or sideways, the app will record horizontal videos by leveling your videos while recording, using the gyroscope. The result is quite cool.
The app includes the following features:
- Three leveling modes: Just rotate, Rotate & scale, Disabled
- AirPlay mirroring while recording
- Multiple Resolutions (Including VGA, HD, Full HD) [Depends on the device. For all of the supported devices Horizon offers 5 options: 1920x1080, 1280x720, 640x640, 640x480 and 480x480. iPhone 4S & iPad 2 only support 640x480 and 480x480.]
- Different aspect ratios (Square 1:1, Wide 16:9, Standard 4:3)
- Eight fun filters to choose from
- Video Library
- Share your creations to social networks (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc)
- Open your videos in other apps
- Select Video Quality to save space (High, Medium, Low)
- Geotagging
- AF/AE Lock
- Record videos with front or back camera
You have to wonder why it took someone so long to come up with something like this. So should you buy yet another camera app? I would definitely recommend it, it is not only a feature Apple should include in the native app, but you will love the user interface. It’s simple and intuitive.
